Biography

I have had a career in tourism in Wales since the 1990s, first with Visit Wales and since 2008 as a Wales Blue Badge Guide. Until recently I combined my guiding career with teaching tourism to university students, and delivering the Next Tourism Generation European project as part of a Cardiff Met University team.

I’m skilled and experienced  in guiding individuals and groups of many different ages and interests and enjoy introducing them to Wales. I’m a qualified French language guide.

Interests

Best of Wales - general interest tours

I enjoy providing tailor-made tours for individuals and small groups to that can be designed to meet their particular interests , and also enjoy guiding larger coach groups who are visiting Wales as part of a longer tours.

However long or short their visit my aim is to make sure they enjoy their experience and come to love Wales.

Castles

History is one of my great interests. Wales has over 600 castles ranging from the castles of the Welsh Princes, to the Norman castles such as massive fortress of Caerphilly Castle to the 19th century medieval fantasies of Cardiff Castle and Castell Coch. I take great pleasure in guiding visitors to and around these castles to discover how our history has helped shape Wales today.

Churches Chapels and Cathedrals

Visiting churches, chapels and cathedrals in Wales is fascinating. Each is a key to the history of its particular location, and and the role religion has played in the development of Wales. For visitors keen to research their Welsh ancestry they can provide a rich resource of information.

Food and Drink

Food and drink is a key element of many people's holiday experience and I enjoy introducing visitors to the Welsh specialities - from whisky and craft beers to Welsh cakes and laverbread.

History and Prehistory

Ancient burial sites such as Pentre Ifan in Pembrokeshire and Tinkinswood in the Vale of Glamorgan, and Celtic stones like those found in Llantwit Major and Margam tell us about the ancient roots of Wales. Many visitors enjoy standing in the footprints of the ancient Welsh ,imagining how their lives and the beliefs that directed them.
