Biography

I really love Wales and all that it has to offer. It’s beautiful and dramatic countryside, fabulous coastline,  historic buildings, castles and gardens, and Wales’ rich history, culture and wonderful welcome! This all makes for a very enthusiastic guide!

I have a flexible approach to my guiding work and am always happy to assist my clients design a bespoke tour just for them. I guide in coaches, minibuses and chauffeured private vehicles.

Having lived in Tenby for more than 40 years, Pembrokeshire and West Wales are my speciality areas. My degree is Fine Art and I retain a keen interest in Art, Museums, exhibitions and galleries. I also love to rummage for vintage and antique treasures.

I have made a number of appearances on television and radio, contributed to various programmes nationally and internationally and written guide books, magazine and newspaper articles. Interests

Best of Wales - general interest tours

Highlights of these tours can include castles, countryside, mountains and coast for coaches, small groups and private tours.
Favourite destinations include fabulous West Wales and Pembrokeshire, Gower, Bannau Brycheiniog, destinations can be adapted to suit you.

Castles

In Wales we have more magnificent castles and forts per square mile than any other country in Europe!
Strategically located, often in dramatic and beautiful places, they all have a fascinating story to tell and are frequently associated with some of the best-known characters from the past.
Pembroke, Manorbier and Carew are some of my absolute favourites!

Churches Chapels and Cathedrals

When the rest of Britain was going through the dark ages, here in Wales, we commenced a golden age of spiritual enlightenment that witnessed the arrival of men and women seeking remote dramatic locations where they might dedicate themselves to prayer and contemplation. In Wales, their legacy today can be found in Churches, Cathedrals and Chapels around the country and on island retreats, Holy Wells and in the names of places. For me the most special of all these is the Cathedral of St David in the National Park of Pembrokeshire and located in the smallest city in Britain!

Gardens and Stately Homes

Remarkable for its natural resources and fashionable status, Wales became a favourite haunt of the rich and enterprising who built houses set within stunning gardens and parkland that reflected their wealth.
My top spots are beautiful Picton and Upton Castles both of Norman origin and their stunning gardens. Aberglasney the garden 'Lost in time' with its rare raised Jacobean walkway, and then the Millennium project that resulted in the unique National Botanic Garden with its magnificent glasshouse. But let's not forget the many small beautiful gardens in special unexpected places. Fabulous!

Industrial Heritage

Wales is rich in natural resources reaching its industrial zenith during the Industrial Revolution at the beginning of the 19th Century. Coal mining, slate extraction, metal smelting, and quarrying and more contribute to the fascinating landscapes that are still evident here today. The golden age of places like Copperopolis and Tinopolis have past, but from there, skilled Welsh specialists took their trades to Americas and beyond.
My particular favourite the textile industry was Wales wide and welsh blankets can be found around the world.

Food and Drink

Pembrokeshire is becoming increasingly well known for its high quality produce of all kind from both land and sea. Available either directly from the producers or various other outlets, this tour will allow us to sample and purchase some of these local delights.
The tour includes stops at a variety of locations and may include vineyard, chocolate factory, farm shops, a variety of enterprising food producers of wine, vegetables, cheese, honey, meat products and farmers markets etc to suit you and when available and in season.

History and Prehistory

The history of Wales boasts many remarkable events that have helped to shape history of Britain! In just one little corner of Wales at Pembroke Castle, Henry VII was born, his family and friends in Pembrokeshire were instrumental in the rise of the Tudors!
The rich prehistory that can be found in North Pembrokeshire is legendary. In the dramatic Preseli hills you will touch history at the Cromlech Pentre Ifan, see where the famous Bluestones were quarried and then transported to Stonehenge. Experience the atmospheric landscapes that have inspired artists and writers over the centuries.

Folklore and Traditions

Ghost, pirates, fairies, giants and witches, in Wales and especially Pembrokeshire we have it all! Not only tales and places of magical stories, but unusual traditions that are still continued today.

Music, Culture and Poetry

My degree is fine Art and so I have a particular interest in Welsh Artists and galleries. We have lots of small local galleries in beautiful inspirational landscapes as well as one of the finest collections of impressionist art outside of France at Wales' own National Museum and Art Gallery in Cardiff.
