Croeso/Welcome – Come on a Ruthin ‘Royalty and Rogues’ tour with me around this charming historic town. Alternatively, visit the Pontcysyllte Aqueduct and Canal World Heritage Site for which I recently produced virtual tours or the Castles and Walls of Edward in Gwynedd World Heritage Site. Or for something totally different I know Wrexham well and can take you around the new city- now famous again for its football club. As a qualified North Wales Green Badge Tourist Guide (as well as a Wales Blue Badge Tourist Guide), I can offer you a great range of tours.
I have a great interest in historic buildings and architecture as a former town planner, but I am also passionate about conservation and the Welsh countryside, having also been involved with rural development projects.
I would be delighted to share my knowledge and love of Wales with you. On the tours I will tell you all about the heritage and culture of the area, and the fascinating stories about the landscape, buildings and people who lived here – which you can’t find in a guide book.
I can either give walking tours or guide using coach transport or a car (which I can book for your use). I can either deliver a given itinerary or offer bespoke tours that include delightful places off the beaten track. Let me arrange lovely places for you to eat and stay – on a wide range of budgets. I’ll provide you with your personal guiding service, to meet your exact requirements and make sure you get the most out of your valuable time here.
I have completed World Host and Welcome Host training for the area – so you could not be in more capable hands.
You can find more details about my tours on Heritage Tours North Wales – www.heritagetoursnorthwales.com
Best of Wales - general interest tours
Discover the places of interest, including ones which are less well known in North Wales. See the amazing landscape of area which is renowned for its outstanding natural beauty. See the legacy of people who have left their mark on the area throughout history. Also discover about how some people earn their living in the area - some through art and craft, and others producing food and drink.
Family History/Ancestral Tours
I love researching family history - it's like being a detective! It's just wonderful what you can discover. I have been a member of the Clwyd Family History Society for over 35 years. My ancestors include farmers, coal miners, carpenters and other craftmen - and it's great to discover stories about them. I would be delighted to help you find out more about your family on an ancestral tour.
Industrial Heritage
Discover the Pontcysyllte Aqueduct and Canal World Heritage Site with me. I was part of the team that developed the bid so I have a great understanding and knowledge about the 18km (11 mile) long site, which was the third World Heritage Site inscribed with this status in Wales in 2009. As I have researched more about the history and people connected with the area, I can give you much more of insight to the area- showing you things that you would not be likely to discover on your own.
Tours can be arranged to other industrial sites to see the legacy of the coal, iron, copper & slate industries
Castles
My love of castles started when my parents- both history teachers -used to take me and my brother on holiday to climb up many steps to the top of the towers. Wales is known as the 'Castle Capital of the World' and in North Wales, in particular, we have a good share of the castles throughout the ages. They include those built by Welsh Princes, King Edward 1 'Iron Ring' and then later, ones built by the landed gentry and industrialists using their wealth. Discover some of the features of the castles and hear interesting stories on a tour.
