Biography

Croeso i Gonwy/Welcome to Conwy!

My name is Paul and I’m a Conwy Official Tour Guide/White Badge holder as well as the county of Conwy Tourism ambassador to gold standard.

I also have family ties to the renowned ‘Conwy Jackdaws’ – you can ask me what that means when we meet. I have lived in and around the town walls of Conwy all my life and would love to take you with me to explore parts of my hometown.

Whether you’re interested in history, culture or finding a great spot to take some photographs, there will be something that we can find together to make your visit to Conwy memorable.

Conwy is a bustling small town, packed wall to wall (excuse the pun!) with centuries of historical buildings and breathtaking scenery, all within a short walk.

Join me for a private walking tour of the castle, the town, or the town walls. I offer tours during the morning or afternoon, whichever you prefer. Just give me a call or email me!

Interests

Castles

From around the 11th century the Welsh endured three and a half centuries of sporadic conflict with the English. It’s no wonder there has been over six hundred castles built in Wales - that’s the equivalent of 1 every 12 square miles! This makes Wales the castle capital of Europe. I have been a regular visitor to the castle since the age of ten, and having taken the decision to retire in 2024, I now volunteer at Conwy Castle weekly, engaging with visitors when required. It’s a role I really enjoy, particularly when visitors ask tricky questions! It can really test my knowledge sometimes!

History and Prehistory

Conwy Town Walls:

We’re lucky enough to have the accompanying town walls still standing in Conwy as well. Of course, we are not able to walk the entire battlement wall walk due to its age, but there’s lots to see and learn from the ground. From the quayside to the watchtower, its twenty-one towers can still give away their secrets!

Business, Industry and Economy

Conwy town itself:

Whether your interests lie with the smallest house or the best example of an Elizabethan manor house in Great Britain, there’s no shortage of places of interest to capture your imagination in the town of Conwy. Of course, Conwy also holds markets and festivals during the summer months as well. You’ll also find an array of local sourced food and drink within its walls.
