Biography

Croeso …Welcome…I love introducing guests to the amazing places and scenery in Wales… I have been guiding all over the whole of the country of Wales as well as the South West of England (as well as most of the UK and Europe) for many years and always look forward to revisiting special places.  I worked in North Wales for the Parc Cenedlaethol Eryri, the Snowdonia National Park and lived at a small station high up the Moelwyn mountains on the narrow gauge  Ffestiniog Railway.  This has made one of my specialities, the Great Little Trains of Wales, their history, the workshops and all the personalities.

My first degree was in Geology and Geography, so reading and interpreting the landscape has become more than a hobby.  Spotting different building stones in any of the 600 + castles in Wales is like a big quiz. Conwy and Castell Coch are some of my favourites.

I love exploring the Wye Valley, and further west the Dylan Thomas village of Laugharne … so many places, so much to discover…

My tours are not all serious, about dates and facts, we do have fun … and I can also accommodate longer trips to Wales to include pick up from Heathrow or Bristol airports, and then via Stonehenge and Bath, or Devon and Cornwall, and all points in between.

Interests

Best of Wales - general interest tours

I can join your group on an extended tour, as a well practiced tour manager, I have seen it all, plus I have loads of interesting facts to share

Industrial Heritage

As a Geologist, and having worked in mining and civil engineering, I can devise a mixed interest tour for exploring the wealth of industrial heritage in both North and South Wales

Slate and Slate Landscape

Now a world heritage site in North Wales, I have an intimate knowledge of the area of slate quarrying and mining in the spectacular mountain scenery, and gleaned mostly from working in the Information Service for the Parc Cenedlaethol Eryri, the Snowdonia National Park.

History and Prehistory

I'm fascinated by stone rows, henges and dolmens, and can use dowsing rods to discover hidden 'archaeology'
