I thought I’d post about the last two weeks trips using the theme of birds.
Hence the crest on the gate of the hotel Twr Felin showing a raven with a snake in its beak and a basket of twigs in its claws represents the story of Adam de Rupe, the Norman Knight who built Roch Castle (another great hotel in the group). He was cursed to die of a vipers bite so had his bedroom at the top of the tower away from snakes, but was bitten by a snake hiding in a basket of kindling.
The spread eagle carved on the legs of a 16th century table represents the arms of Owain Gwynedd an ancestor of the Wyn family that built Gwydir castle near Llanwrst taken on a recent visit where I also took a picture of the peacocks strutting about as it is mating time. The same family was responsible for Plas Mawr in Conwy where I took the pic of the cut out spread eagle window this time to peer through to the Elizabethan garden.
The bird on the rock (sorry I only have my i phone though clients with huge lenses from the Noble Caledonia Ocean Nova bird watching cruise last week took some great pics!) is the wonderful chough that we usually see when we visit South Stack Ynys Llawd RSPB reserve on Anglesey. The warden described it as a crow with lipstick as it has wonderful red legs and beak. The final pic is of one of the sculptures at Caernarfon castle showing the hands of the workmen topped by the eagle representing the famous eagle tower
